The Puerto Rican Tower

She’s got height!

With Russia’s very own tower Ekaterina Gamova out of sight, this chica will for sure shine in the years to come.

Meet Puerto Rico’s Alba Hernandez who recently competed at the 2013 FIVB Women’s U20 World Championship which concluded less than a week ago. Despite her team’s disappointing performance, Alba caught the media’s attention with her towering height.

At 19 years old, she stands 2.07 meters (6 feet 8 inches) which made her the tallest athlete of the said event.

An FIVB article shares that “during the presentation of the starting six, usually Puerto Rico libero Sahlimarie Merlo, who is 178-cm, enters the court running and giving a funny low “five” to all her team-mates: then every time she tries the “high five” with Alba. Failing quite hilariously: she never gets up there.”

LOL!

Alba Says…

“Being so tall, you may have some problems with the bed in the hotels. My parents are tall, by I’m taller. And I have a cousin, Peter John Ramos, who is 2.21 meters and plays basketball with the Puerto Rican National team.”

With her physical gift, Alba now plays as a middle blocker after playing as a wing spiker.

“My dream is becoming a better player and join Puerto Rico senior team. I want to play volleyball and enjoy playing, because I love it, as we show with the fun that we feel as a team when we play together.”

Alba is now back in her country and will now focus on her college education.
