TOS: Naz Aydemir

She never fails to impress us with her success on and off the court.

The 21 year old Turkish setter is having a great 2010/2011 so far. Naz and Fenerbahce won the 2010 World Club Championship, bronze medal at the 2010/2011 Champions League and concluded their season by winning the prestigious Turkish League Crown.

At the 2010 World Championship, Naz and her teammates finished 6th (Turkey’s Best Finish at Worlds) and concluded the tournament as the 5th Best Setter. Great accomplishment for Naz at such a very young age.

Today (June 30th), one of the world’s most promising young talents has reached another milestone in life  off the volleyball court. We’d have our great friend Cetin A. tell you more about it…

The Talented Miss Aydemir by Cetin A.

A winner not only on the court, but also at school: On June the 30th, Turkey’s very own Naz Aydemir graduated from Istanbul Bilgi University, Department of Advertising.

Proud parents Alev and Ali Aydemir, both former Turkish national volleyball players, fondly stood by their daughter for this happy occasion. Naz always enjoyed her parents’s support since she started to play volleyball at the age of 10. Her favorite number 11 is actually the sum of her parents’ numbers, wearing which is a way of showing her affection for them.

In several countries, there are formal procedures to provide athletetes a proper means of pursuing a career in sports and continue their university education at the same time. For instance in the United States, there are college leagues, scholarships and class schedules tailored to fit athlete-students’ needs.

In Turkey however, athletes suffer from absence of such possibilities. Each athlete needs to find their own solution to fulfill the requests of their club and school. While there are athletes who can manage the double life on their own right, the list gets too short if an athlete aims to perform at top level and is not willing to sacrifice a proper education.

After becoming the starting setter of the major team of Turkey’s distinguished volleyball brand Eczacibasi at the age of 15, and moving to the rising armada of Fenerbahce Acibadem in 2009, Naz never had an easy time attending classes, taking exams and delivering projects. Yet her dedication and efforts paid off when she earned her B.A. degree in Advertising on top of a collection of titles, medals and individual awards in volleyball at the age of 21.

We wish the best of success to Turkey’s rising star in the future.

On behalf of all your fans from all over the world, CONGRATULATIONS NAZ!
