She is a living proof that age does NOT matter in volleyball.
Meet 80 year Lois Austin who can still play against players 20 to 30 years younger than her. Take note, she plays 3 times a week. According to this article by latimes.com, Austin continues to play the game mainly because she enjoys meeting people.
“I play because of my friends. Volleyball is everything for me. It cements relationships with people. You have a bond.”
The other great part about her story is that her 68 year old husband also plays the game. They even play together in tournaments.
Lois also reveals that she enjoys playing sand volleyball because “the sand provides a softer landing and is kinder to her knees”.
