6 years ago, I lost a very loving and very strong woman because of cancer. My Grandma Clarita remained brave from the day she was diagnosed up to the very last day she battled brain cancer. Not a day I don’t think of her.
As my way of honoring my Grandma and to all those who bravely fought the Big C together with their loved ones, I invite each and everyone to support SIDE-OUT.ORG: DIG PINK!
“The Side-Out Foundation (Side-Out) was established in 2004 to unite volleyball players and coaches and to have them work toward the common goal of furthering breast cancer awareness, education and patient services. Side-Out supports teams nationwide in their volleyball tournaments, clinics and other fundraising efforts. The foundation offers practical support for fundraising in addition to educational material for participants in order to help them become effective advocates for breast cancer. We contribute the funds to organizations that serve breast cancer patients, whether it be in the form of research, medical services or compassionate support.
The term side-out refers to a situation in volleyball when one team wins a point while its opponent is serving, thereby regaining serve or control of play. It is hoped that this Side-Out will do the same for breast cancer patients, providing them with the support, education and best available treatments to regain control of their lives.
The Side-Out Foundation is a support and advocacy organization dedicated to making a significant and identifiable difference in the lives of breast cancer patients and their families by supporting clinical trials, increasing compassionate support services and educating communities.
Dig Pink is The Side-Out Foundation’s trademark name for its fundraising events. A Dig Pink®event can be organized at the local, county, city or state level, and it is supported by college and middle/high school volleyball coaches and teams as well as club coaches and teams. All proceeds benefit Side-Out, which in turn awards grants to medical research organizations and entities dedicated to providing compassionate support to breast cancer patients and their families. Your participation gives the volleyball community the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of all breast cancer patients.
