Kim Glass: Don’t Text & Drive!

We love her even more! American outside hitter and 2008 Olympic Silver Medalist, KIMBERLY GLASS, confesses about her horrifying experience when she was still in college. The main cause of the accident was that she was texting while driving!

Thank you so much Kim for your sharing your actual life experience and for helping us make a stand against Texting-While-Driving!

We wish you the best Kimmie with Team USA this season!

Kim’s Confession…

I received an e-mail from Volleywood, asking if I would like to take stance on TEXTING-WHILE DRIVING, immediately after reading, I was eager to make a statement.

It’s embarrassing to write, but maybe it should be known.

Not many people know this, but when I was in college, I got into a small fender-bender. I was driving down the street with my Sidekick in hand, in a friends (borrowed) car, I was texting, and i dropped the phone, I looked down for what I thought couldn’t be more than 2 seconds, and that was ENOUGH, that was enough time, for an unseen light to turn red, and all the cars to stop in front of me, and TOO late for me to stop. I ran into the back of someone’s car, which dominoed into another car.

I REMEMBER MY IMMEDIATE FEELING of disbelief, and just thinking I wish I COULD DO THIS OVER AGAIN, I immediately started to cry. I WISH THIS NEVER HAPPENED. But I COULDN’T TAKE IT BACK, I WAS SOO SCARED! In the 3rd car, there was an old lady in her seventies. I was fortunate enough that no one had ANY injuries, everyone was healthy, and the damages that occurred were to the fender’s and bumpers ONLY.

But those couple of seconds could have easily turned out differently and effected the lives of everyone involved. I could have easily taken someone’s grandmother, mother, father, sister, brother, or friend’s life away, in addition to ruin my life & maybe I wouldn’t be where I am at today, if things would have turned out differently.

All for what??? A TEXT MESSAGE, THAT MOST LIKELY CAN WAIT. We need to slow down, and think more. . .TEXTING-WHILE-DRIVING IS NOT A SMART DECISION, IT’S NOT COOL.

IT’S A RISK YOU DON’T WANT TO TAKE.

We’ve all done it, we’ve all had those instances, where we had “CLOSE ONE’S” and wipe the sweat from our heads, and thank God we didn’t get into that accident, and keep driving “Thinking we have skills” and keep repeating the same possibly degenerative habit of texting-while driving… not learning from those CLOSE encounters, until the one day you aren’t as sharp as you think you are, and that 1 second of looking down is actually 5 seconds and someone else could cut in front of you…then what.. your entire world is rocked, in the WORST WAY, along with the lives of others.

This is serious, and I have to agree with Brook Billings in his blog:

“It is extremely dangerous and not worth it. If you have something that important to talk about you should either pull over and text them or get a blue tooth and call them. Or at least wait until you have stopped at a red light. Texting and driving is illegal for a reason. Its just not worth it!”

Don’t Text While Driving

Peace & Love,
Kim
