Volleyball Tip Of The Day: Diving

Tip of the Day: Diving

My favorite thing to do in volleyball is to dive on the floor after a ball.

I was just at a national team practice here in Fiji and not one player dove on the floor.

You might get the conventional, fall down on your side charity roll, but never a dive on to the chest for the ball. I asked the coach why don’t they dive on the floor after the ball. He said they have never been taught how to and didn’t know that you had to dive for the ball.

After teaching them how to do it, they loved it. They immediately started to dig more balls and the rallies lasted a lot longer. Get on the floor after the volleyball, it won’t come to you. A diving dig is a difference maker and momentum changer.

It can bring life back into your team when your team is desperate in a match. Don’t be scared, it might hurt a bit, but it’s a must if you want to play the game of volleyball. Practice it and make sure you get low and dive through the ball.

That one dive can be the difference between a championship and thinking about it all summer long!!!
