Becky Perry’s Diet Tips

We felt so bad having a huge burrito for lunch after reading Becky’s diet secrets. So tomorrow, we are going to try Becky’s diet and start practicing a healthier lifestyle.

Health is Wealth. Right Becky?

Becky Says…

I love food! Not only does it bring people together, but it fuels our bodies to continue doing what we love, play volleyball! With that being said, here’s a breakdown of my less than strict but conscious diet.

So I don’t watch what I eat too closely as far as calories or carbs or fat goes. In fact I don’t pay attention to any of those things. I know that if I keep my meals balanced then I won’t have to do that. My parents raised me on a very strict diet. My dad was a marine and my mom was a personal trainer and model. Every meal had a protein, a carb, and a vegetable, as well as one meal a day including a natural fat, and I had to have a glass of milk at dinner.

I guess my parents nutritional values paid off because that’s the only diet I continue to use! Every time I eat I make sure I have some kind of meat for my protein (I’m a huge red meat lover! surprise surprise the Texan loves beef haha), a vegetable or fruit (whether it be orange juice at breakfast or a banana, or broccoli with dinner) and a carb (potatoes, pasta, rice).

In order to get my natural fat intake, I turn to avocados and nuts. I LOVE avocados. Guacamole is amazing on my turkey sandwiches and my burritos  In between meals, when I’m hungry, I like to snack on nuts and fruit. Pistachios are my favorite. I can eat a whole bag in one sitting. In fact, during my entire senior season I ate a bag of pistachios and a pomegranate every night while watching tv with my roommate Jenna Hagglund. Pomegranates and acai are my favorite fruits. They are extremely high in antioxidants which can help detox your body.

Something new I have tried to implement is cutting down on my gluten intake. As Americans we use gluten in almost all of our food, even if it’s just used as a binding agent! So instead of wheat at every meal, sometimes I’ll supplement the noodles or the bread with potatoes or brown rice.

As far as eating out goes, I swear by Chipotle. All of their ingredients are gluten-free and the meat is naturally raised. The contents of the food are always fresh and it’s fast and easy! Yogurtland is also one of my go-to’s! Yogurt does wonders for your digestive tract!

The active cultures work in a mutualistic manner to help cleanse your intestines which only benefits digestion  Not to mention, it tasted amazing and comes with fresh fruit!

So that’s it! Basically you can just break it down to the fact that I am just one conscious eater summed up, here’s how I like to eat:

  1. Make every day balanced. A carb, protein, and vegetable/fruit at every meal.
  2. Incorporate natural fats, they’re necessary for an athlete’s energy
  3. The fewer the ingredients on a product label, the better!
  4. Water is everyone’s best friend
  5. Allow yourself a treat! dessert is ok in moderation, and healthy dessert (like frozen yogurt) is even better

Hope this works for you.
