Express: Aguero’s Return, Hooker in AZE & More!

Since we don’t want to overwhelm your Facebook Newsfeed with all the latest volleyball updates, we thought of putting the updates in one post and call it “Volley Express!”.

Ready? Here we go!

ITALY: The Return of Aguero

She better not be kidding! Volleyball. It has reported that the GREAT Cuban-turned-Italian plans to rejoin the National Team for the 2012 Olympics. She said that she will come back only if Coach Barbolini will ask her. Well he better ask you! We think Italy’s poor results in the last 2 years are mainly due to Aguero’s absence. We don’t think Piccinini can do it alone. Italy needs Aguero! We repeat Italy needs Aguero!

We bet Picci is very happy to hear this news. Hahaha! We kid! We kid!

Share the spotlight sis! Wink! Wink!

USA: Destinee Hooker to play in Azerbaijan?

Per Voleybolmagazin.com, Destinee Hooker is in talks to play for Azerbaijan’s Rabita Baku next season. Really? Well we don’t think this report is true at all. For now, we can call this as a “rumor” knowing that Hooker hasn’t been officially released by her Italian club team, Scavolini Pesaro. Without the release paper, Hooker will not be able to play for any professional team. Plus with all the drama she is going through with Pesaro, it might take a little while for us to find out what her future plans are.

Hooker has released this statement:

I was very unhappy when the examination showed that there is a rupture, but at the same time, now is much easier for me because I know the cause of the pain and swelling. At this moment I am unable to think of anything else other than my surgery and recovery,  and I hope that all the rumors will stop after this announcement.

There you go folks! Let’s give her a break. Hooker has received a lot of not-so-nice press releases from Italy since she left Pesaro. Again, let’s respect her silence and wish her well from the surgery.

Hugs girlfriend.

IRAN: A New Coach For The Men’s Team!

We thought it was going to be Silvano Prandi but it appears that Julio Velasco submitted a more impressive resume to get the job. Prandi used to coach Bulgaria’s men’s team but was dropped after a disastrous 2010 season while Velasco mutually parted ways with Spain after the Federation decided that they could no longer pay him.

We’re so happy for Iran to get a world class coach! We expect them to do well this 2011 season.

Congrats Coach! Where’s the party at?

KENYA: A Tax Free Turf!

We reported last week that Kenya would most likely get banned and fined by the Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB) since their preparations to host the Women’s Club Championship were progressing really slow. One of the main reasons was that the government did not respond to their request to wave the tax for the turf donated by the FIVB.

Guess what?

The volleyball gods and goddesses have answered our prayer and the government has WAIVED the tax for the turf!

Yehey! We’re so happy for Kenya! We told you to never lose hope.

It’s showtime!

ITALY: Simona Gioli & Team Spes Conegliano Support Japan.

This one has really touched our hearts.

Spes Conegliano waved a Japanese flag before their Italian league match against Yamamay Busto Arsizio. Gioli and team lost in 4 sets but we deeply thank the love they showed for Japan. Great things await for you ladies!

You can still HELP JAPAN by clicking THIS.

Grazie Mille!

GREECE: New Coach!

Alekos Leonis has been REHIREd hired by the Greek Federation to coach its men’s team for the next 2 years.

He used to coach the team a few years ago: 2007 and 2008 editions of the CEV European League,  2007 CEV European Championship and he even led Greece to qualification to the final round of the 2009 CEV European Championship staged in Turkey. Wow! His resume seems very impressive.

Per Coach Leonis:

I will not speak about Olympic Games and other grand goals that are unattainable” said Leonis in his first interview after his appointment. “I prefer realistic goals and thus our main priority will be to qualify to the final round of the next European Championship. This cannot be achieved overnight, so we need a good run in this year’s CEV European League to start with.

Congrats on the new job coach! Better do well!
