The 2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League – Women runner-up VakifBank ISTANBUL announced another huge transfer for the new season. The Turkish champions signed with one of the world’s top female players – Sheilla Castro. This way the Brazilian star is returning to Europe after playing in her country’s domestic Superliga for six consecutive seasons.
Previously in her career, Castro spent four club seasons in Europe playing for Italy’s Scavolini PESARO from 2004 to 2008. She is one of the most decorated players in women’s volleyball. Having won two Olympic gold medals with the national team of Brazil is just the cream of a wide collection of team medals from the world’s top volleyball competitions. Most recently, Sheilla captained Molico OSASCO to the silver medal from the 2014 FIVB Women’s Club World Championship in Zurich, where the Brazilian team lost to the European champions Dinamo KAZAN of Russia. She had, however, climbed to the top of that competition two years earlier, when by the name of Solys Nestlé OSASCO, her team took gold in Doha. Back then, the 185-cm Brazilian opposite was also honored as the tournament’s Most Valuable Player and Best Scorer, which are only a tiny part of the numerous individual awards she has received in her volleyball career.
However, one gold medal Sheilla has not yet won is that from the CEV Champions League. “I want it,” she declared upon signing with VakifBank. “I am really happy to join such a strong team and I would love to be part of it when it finds itself on the top at the end of the season. I feel that we have the necessary strength to accomplish it. I do not have a problem to adapt to European volleyball again. VakifBank boasts the world’s best players in its squad and I am sure they will be very helpful to me. It will be a great pleasure for me to play top level volleyball with them. I feel like I am in the biggest club in the world and I will do my best to win the fans’ hearts.”

Sheilla says…
“I’m happy with this contract. Vakifbank is a really strong team and I came here to win only trophy that missing in my career – The Champions league. I’m glad that I will live in Istanbul as well.
I was very happy in Molico. I closed one of the happiest chapters in my life. Now, I have new team. I’m sure that it will be wonderful season for me. New challenges – here I come!”
Rumor has it that her husband has also been offered a job to work as part of the coaching staff for a basketball team.
