Yamamay Busto Arsizio won the 34th edition of the women’s Italian Cup against Rebecchi Nordmeccanica Piacenza in a one sided match 3-0 (25-13, 25-18, 25-17). Yamamay, currently ranked #1 in the Italian League, definitely dominated the match behind the brilliant performance of American setter Carli Lloyd and tournament MVP Helena Havelkova (16 pts). Overall, the winners truly displayed great volleyball from start to finish. We have a feeling that they would win the Italian League this season.
In the bronze medal match, Aguero and Team Casa Modena lost a heartbreaking 5 set match against Chateau d’Ax Urbino Volleyball 2-3 (25-22, 24-26, 22-25, 25-16, 13-15).
During the semifinals, Modena had the chance to play for the crown but lost a highly contested 5 set match against Yamamay. Modena’s Christa Harmotto played a superb match with 24 pts and made a clear statement that she’s one of the league’s top middle blockers. Chateau d’Ax Urbino Volley lost to Rebecchi Nordmeccanica Piacenza in straight sets behind Carmen Turlea’s 15 points.
