Simon’s Unknown Future

October 30th, 2012

This past Sunday, Piacenza fans created some buzz after protesting for Simon to finally get to play on their home team.

Watch This:

The Copra Piacenza Fan Club created a a banner saying: “Leal e Simon: due pesi e due misure come nelle peggiori dittature”, which means “Leal and Simon, two weights and two measures as in the worst dictatorships”, thereby emphasizing the different treatment of the two Cuban players.

In case you didn’t know. Simon’s teammate Leal is already FREE as a bird to play professionally and has a club contract in Brazil. Leal even played at the 2012 Club World Championship in Qatar with Team Sada Cruzeiro and won the silver medal.

As for Simon, it’s still unknown despite rumors that he’d get to play in January 2013.

We really wonder why it’s taking FOREVVVVVVVVERRRRRRRRR for the Italian Federation to grant Simon permission to play and/or maybe the FIVB is taking so long as well.

Can you believe it’s been 2 YEARS already since he last played for Cuba?

Former star of the Cuban national team, Robertlandy Simon, still doesn’t know when he gets to play for Italian club team Copra Piacenza.

We bet he’s been itching to play.

Come on now! He used to be the world’s best middle blocker before he defected left Cuba in 2010 right after the 2010 World Championship to pursue his dreams & to make a decent living overseas.

In case you didn’t know, a Cuban player who wishes to quit the national team in order to play abroad must stay INACTIVE for 2 years before the player gets the official release from the FIVB. Aside from Simon, players like Nancy Carrillo, Joandry Leal, Leonel Marshall and Taismary Aguero went through this 2 year wrath to fulfill their dreams to leave Cuba.

Back to Simon…

Source says that Simon has been expecting for months now to receive the green light from the FIVB but it has NOT happened.

“Simon thought he would get it in July but he didn’t get any email from the FIVB. He kept on waiting before and after the Olympics, still didn’t happen. Now, there’s a new FIVB President and he hopes President Graca can expedite his release form.” says the source.

“Simon’s former teammate, Joandry Leal, is now a free man and he will play in the Brazilian League this season. It’s been a frustrating waiting period for Robertlandy. His only hope is Italian League President, Diego Mosna, who has mentioned that Simon should be allowed to play by January 2013.” adds the source.

We really hope Diego Mosna can help Simon. He’s been in Italy for too long. The fans really miss seeing the 25 year old dominate the court with his amazing volleyball skills.

Hang in there Simon!

There’s a light at the end of the tunnel!
