Mari Is Not Bitter

Despite being cut by Coach ZRG for the 2012 Olympic Team, Mari has opened up again in regards to her public drama with the coach.

In an interview released by esporte.uol.com.br, Mari says that she is not mad nor bitter Coach Jose Roberto Guimaraes. She also adds that her time with the National Team is NOT over yet and the door is wide open for her to return if possible. Coach ZRG has previously mentioned that Mari is welcome anytime to represent Brazil again.

“I had no reason to speak to him. I was cut from the team. I was upset, I wanted to be a part of the championship, of course, but such things happen.” according to the 2008 Olympic gold medalist.

She also mentions that she will NOT play for Germany after rumors started to circulate a few months ago. “I would like to make it clear that I never said that I would play for Germany. My family and I have German blood but I will only wear the shirt of Brazil. I will not play for another country.”

The 29 year old is also willing to work Coach ZRG down the road. With an intention to return to the Brazilian League this 2013/2014 season, Mari is willing to leave the heartaches behind and mend fences with Ze Roberto. “Everything will depend on the proposals. I’l play for a team that I feel good in. If it is Ze’s team, I would have no problem with it.”

Mari will have surgery in Brazil and will NOT renew her contract with Turkish club team Fenerbahce which expires in May.

With her willingness to resolve issues with Coach ZRG, anything is possible now for the outside hitter to play for Brazil once again in the near future.
