Kerri Walsh, ASICS & Red Cross Team Up

Kerri Walsh Jennings, a three-time Olympic gold medalist and pro beach volleyball star, teamed up with Elisabeth Rohm, an American Red Cross National Celebrity Cabinet Member to announce a charitable partnership with the ASICS World Series of Beach Volleyball that benefits the 132-year old organization. The event will be held in Long Beach, Calif. July 22 – 28, 2013.

“It is our privilege to support the vital work of the Red Cross,” said Leonard Armato creator and producer of the ASICS World Series of Beach Volleyball. “Almost every person is touched by their outstanding efforts in one-way-or-another. As a global event, we are proud to help support their efforts. When an international crisis occurs the Red Cross is there to help those in need. We are thrilled to be able to offer them a platform through our event to further their mission and help generate funds, volunteers and exposure.”

A big fan of professional beach volleyball and admirer of Walsh Jennings, actress and author Röhm was excited to lend her support on behalf of the American Red Cross partnership to increase awareness and generate funds for the life-saving work that affects so many people.

“I have seen the work of the Red Cross firsthand on the ground here in LA and as far away as on the other side of the world in Cambodia,” said Röhm. “As a mother, the Red Cross mission is personal for me when I think about how to keep my own family safe.

This partnership has the potential to be so powerful, if we can inspire viewers around the world join in. We can learn to save lives, be safe on the beach, and get involved in an incredibly important mission — providing relief where there is suffering in the world.” Through a multi-level approach, fans, spectators and viewers at home, will be encouraged to #JoinIn and “pay it forward” either through donations or volunteerism. In addition, the ASICS World Series of Beach Volleyball will also feature a celebrity match on Saturday, July 27. Donations to the Red Cross can be made by texting 90999 to REDCROSS or online at redcross.org

The ASICS World Series of Beach Volleyball features the first Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) sanctioned Grand Slam tournament in the United States since 2003, and will include the inaugural ASICS World Series Cup, a special competition that will feature the top U.S. men’s and women’s teams competing against the best teams from around the world.
