2012 Volley Masters Is Canceled

Totally Understandable!

Organizers of the Montreux Volley Masters has canceled the 2012 edition due to a very busy volleyball calender. Seriously, this is volleyball’s BUSIEST year! There are so many upcoming events knowing that the Olympics is less than 6 months away. There’s Olympic Continental Champs, then the World Olympic Qualification, Pan Am Cup in the Americas, the World Grand Prix and then the Olympics.

BUSY!

Anyways, here’s the official statement from the Volleymasters.CH:

“Global international competitions can be somewhat disrupted during an Olympic Games year. For example, four years ago, after many discussions, the organizers had finally succeeded in reorganizing the 2008 Montreux Volley Masters, but with only 6 teams participating instead of the traditional 8 being present. This year, the continental and world qualifications calendar for the London Olympics is complicating our task. Indeed, the countries affected will not know their situation until after the results of their respective continental competitions, which are to take place between April and mid-May. They will then have one more last chance to qualify during a world tournament that will take place in Japan from 19 to 27 May 2012.

It is therefore clear that no team is currently in a position to commit to and confirm its participation in the Montreux Volley Masters 2012, whose dates had anyway been brought forward slightly, due to the FIVB Grand Prix starting on 5 June. With great regret, therefore, the organization committee has consequently been obliged to defer the next edition until June 2013.
Now that we are getting over this disappointment, we are convinced that our loyal public of connoisseurs, who normally flock to the Pierrier stands, will understand our decision and still come to the next meeting. We thank you for your understanding and support.

So, it’s rendez-vous in Montreux from 4 to 9 June 2013 for the 28th Montreux Volley Masters!”

See ya next year!
