Reid Priddy’s Injury Pics

OMG!

No wonder he’s not in Puerto Rico with Team USA for the NORCECA Continental Championship which kicks off today.

In case you didn’t know, American outside hitter and 2008 Olympic gold medalist, Reid Priddy, announced on the The Net Live this morning about the serious incident that happened almost 2 weeks ago while at volleyball practice.

According to Reid, he got elbowed on the face by Max Holt while blocking. The incident resulted in broken facial bones, a trip to the Operating Room, plates installed in his face and a recovery period of 6-8 weeks.

From His Majesty Reid Priddy:

“On Monday August 15th I endured a blunt force trauma to the face (CSI Terms;) in practice. I was blocking and collided with a teammate. It caused about a half dozen fractures and some displaced near my left eye and mid face. I had surgery Wednesday. The surgery itself went very well. I had two titanium plates put in my orbital bone and check bone. Once that was put in place they popped my zygomatic arch back in place. I woke up from the surgery (3 surgeons involved) and they said everything went great. The break was even more serious than they thought but all was good and repaired perfectly.

However, about two hours post surgery i had an artery bleed in my eye and had to go into another immediate surgery as blood was filling my eye and applying pressure and restricting my vision. It was very scary but they were able to open my eye more and allow it to drain and just before I went into the Operating Room again, the blood stopped. I was discharged from the hospital after 3 days and recovering at home. I have great doctors and are taking good care of me. I’m stable and resting. The photos look gnarly but I’m doing better and vision is back.

The doctors don’t expect any of this to change the 6-8 week recovery time. I will have stitches put in on Tuesday for the cuts they made late Wednesday night and we are already putting together a rehab plan to help me get back in the weight room as well and maintain my physical shape. So I should be on the court in uniform competing again in no time.

Thanks for all the prayers and concern!”

He’s very optimistic to recover just in time for the World Cup later this year. USA needs to play in the Finals of the Norceca Champs to qualify.

Accidents happen and we’re extremely glad that nothing so serious happened to Reid and that he’s recovering.
