Maxim Mikhaylov & Russia Finally Win GOLD

After 4 years of not winning a gold medal in any FIVB and continental tournaments, Russia finally brought home the bacon after winning the 2017 European Championship against Germany in an epic 5 set match.

After the match, tourney MVP Maxim Mikhaylov felt very proud of his team for the work they did and for now being the Volleyball Kings Of Europe.

“It is an amazing result, especially since we had not won a gold medal for quite some time, so it gives even more value to it. This victory will give us even more confidence.

A victory is a victory and now we can celebrate for being the European champions. We showed on court that we are a strong team.”

With this success, Russia is now TIED with France as the #1 teams in Europe according to the latest European Rankings released by CEV. Silver medalists Germany remains at #8 while bronze medalists Serbia stays at #3.

Russian players will take a few days off and will the join their respective club teams.
