Egypt Returns To The Olympic Stage In Rio

After missing the 2012 Olympics, Egypt is finally returning to the Olympic stage in Rio after winning against Tunisia in an epic 5 set match.

Per FIVB:

Egypt’s men’s team claimed their place at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games following a 3-2 (25-19, 20-25, 25-18, 19-25, 16-14) victory over Tunisia in the African Men’s Olympic Qualification Tournament final at Elende Hall in Brazzaville, Republic of the Congo on Tuesday (January 12th).

Egypt join a list of six countries who have qualified for the men’s volleyball tournament at the Rio Olympics including hosts Brazil, FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Cup winners USA and runners-up Italy, South American Olympic Qualification winners Argentina and NORCECA Olympic Qualification Tournament winners Cuba.

Next up after the tournament in Brazzaville is the African Women’ Olympic Qualification Tournament set to take place in Yaoundé, Cameroon from February 12-19. That will be followed by the qualification tournament for Asian teams which also doubles as a World Olympic Qualification Tournament and will take place in Japan between May 14-22 (Women) and May 28-June 5 (Men).
