Iran’s Saeid Marouf FIVB World Cup Confession

This is NOT Iran’s year in international volleyball.

After a successful campaign last year finishing 4th in the FIVB World League and 6th in the World Championship, Iran did NOT get the good results in 2015.

Coach Kovac’s squad finished 6th in the World League and 8th in the recently concluded FIVB World Cup.

During their post match press conference, 2014 Volleywood Idol Marouf admitted to the press that the World Cup was not their tournament at all.

“This tournament was not perfect for us, because we could have shown a better performance. But it’s normal and sometimes happens like this in sport.

Coach Kovach had some words to add.

“We have to try and understand our problems because our first competition next year is the Olympic qualification in Japan.

I know my team is better so, we’ll try to prepare as well as possible and be ready for qualification.

The good thing is that the coach and captain remain optimistic for their future and Iran will try to qualify for the 2016 Olympics. Asia is getting tougher with Australia and Japan starting to become stronger.

It won’t be an easy journey but anything is possible.
