We’d love to see Gamova in her 5th consecutive Olympics and hopefully she ends her career with an Olympic GOLD.
However, the 2006 and 2010 World Champion is not thinking about the 2016 Olympics yet.
The 33 year old Gamova-Mukasey tells the FIVB:
“I am not thinking about the future. I have decided to come back and to play for Russia at the World Championship this year and that’s it for the time being. I just want to play to win, and defend the honour of our country, as well as the World Championship titles that we won in 2006 and 2010.”
In case you didn’t know, Katya surprised the volleyball world when she announced her return to the National Team after a 2 year absence. She last competed for Russia at the 2012 Olympics. After a disappointing result, Gamova quit and decided to focus more on her personal life. She married film director Michael Mukasey after the Olympics.
Gamova played a successful season with her club team, Dinamo Kazan. She and her team won the 2013/2014 Champions League as well as the 2014 FIVB Club World Championship.
Prior to the 2014 World Championship, she and Brazilian Coach Guimaraes got into a war of words after Guimaraes told the media that she received a lot of $$$ to play for Russia again. Both parties have publicly resolved the issue.
