Costagrande Joins Vakifbank

Goodbye China! Hello Turkey!

Argentinian-turned-Italian volleyball superstar and MVP of the 2011 FIVB World Cup, Carolina Costagrande, has finally confirmed the persistent rumors that she is joining Europe’s best club team, Vakifbank, for the 2013/2014 season.

Carol replaces Malgorzata Glinka who has retired from volleyball.

In case you didn’t know, the 32 year old outside hitter played in China for the last 2 seasons with Coach Lang Ping’s Team Evergrande. Recently, Carol and Evergrande won the Asian Club Championship to qualify for the 2013 Club World Championship later this year in Switzerland.

“Carol enjoyed China but the offer from Vakifbank was something she could not refuse. The offer came at the right time with the right price. She wants to compete in Europe again and against some of the world’s best players. Playing for Coach Guidetti is another factor why she took the offer with zero hesitations. Vakifbank is very excited to have her on the team.” says our source.

With Carol on the team, she now completes Vakifbank’s star studded roster which includes Naz Aydemir, Jovana Brakocevic, Christiane Furst, Bahar Toksoy and Sonsirma Gozde just to name a few.

As for her future with the Italian NT, she will compete with the team this year according to our source.
