Sara has returned home after spending almost 2 months at the hospital due to a very serious kidney infection.

Last Friday, Sara’s camp released this statement:

(Staff) Sara ha lasciato in giornata l’ospedale, continuerà il periodo di riabilitazione a casa con controlli periodici e frequenti sempre presso l’Ospedale Niguarda. Il primo passo verso il ritorno alla normalità!

It means she will continue her recovery at home and will be monitored at the Niguarda Hospital in Italia.

Buone condizioni generali, lucida, orientata, collaborante. Soddisfacente al momento la funzione del neofegato. Oggi iniziale cauta mobilizzazione. Si mantiene tuttavia la prognosi riservata per la complessità della situazione immunologica.

Sara’s camp released another update as of March 18th:

Sara era in condizioni cliniche molto gravi tanto da richiedere un trapianto di fegato in emergenza, che è chirurgicamente riuscito; Le prime 48 ore post- trapianto sono rascorse secondo le migliori aspettative e ci sono segni di ripresa incoraggianti. I medici, entro le prossime 48 ore, potranno eseguire una valutazione più approfondita. La prognosi è tuttora riservata.

Translation by Verena G: Sara was such in a severe condition that she needed an emergency liver transplant. The surgery has been successfully completed. the first 48 hours after the operation went in the best possible way and there are encouraging signs of recovery. In the following 48 hours, doctors will be able to carry out a more in-depth evaluation. Prognosis is still reserved.

March 16th, 2013

Based on the updates from her camp, the prognosis is NOT good after the liver transplant a few hours ago. We’ve also received a report that Sara was diagnosed with severe acute hepatitis which her team has not disclosed.

Let’s continue to keep Sara Anzanello in our prayers. The Volleyball World is with you in this battle Sara.

Si é concluso l’intervento pochi minuti fa. La prognosi rimane riservata e nuovi aggiornamenti saranno dati nella giornata di lunedì.

É iniziata questa mattina l’operazione di trapianto del fegato. Nel pomeriggio sarà comunicato il bollettino medico. Grazie a tutti per il vostro affetto!

“Sentiamo il dovere di ringraziare quanti ci sono vicini con il loro affetto e si sono interessati alle condizioni di salute di Sara e continuano a farlo: amici, conoscenti e tifosi. Lo facciamo in un momento in cui Sara sta affrontando una sfida difficile, noi continuiamo a tifare per lei e in questo delicato momento chiediamo massima tranquillità e il più stretto riserbo. A breve verrà diramato un bollettino medico con gli aggiornamenti sullo stato di salute di Sara. La prognosi resta riservata.”

This is one tough test for Sara, but we know she’ll put a good fight!

The 32 year old middle blocker from Italia has returned to her country to undergo an emergency liver transplant. No official statement has been released from her camp in regards to this news.

“She is a very strong person and I know that she will be okay.” says a friend close to Sara who prefers to remain anonymous.

The medical team taking care of Sara assures that she will recover in due time.

In case you didn’t know, Sara is playing with Azerbaijan club team, Azerrail Baku, who recently finished 5th in the world’s most prestigious club tournament, the CEV Champions League.

She made her national team debut at the age of 17 and has played for Italia more than 200 times, ie gold medal 2002 World Championship, gold medal 2007 and 2011 World Cup. She was also awarded as the Best Blocker at the 2006 World Grand Prix.

Sara, you can get through this challenge!
