Willoughby To Play in Russia

We really believe that we all deserve a second chance, just like…

2008 Olympic silver medalist Kim Willoughby.

Judge Karen Ahn has approved the 31 year old’s request to be released from her 5 year probation so she can resurrect her professional career in Russia. Kim Willoughby has received an offer to play in one of the world’s top pro-leagues with a $75,000 salary for 3 months. “”I do know how to express it right now, but if this is given to me it would mean the world to me.” said Kim while inside the court room.

Kim has only served half of her probation which stemmed from a forgettable incident while out at a nightclub in Hawaii (2006). Kim punched another woman and broke her nasal bone and eye socket. She was charged with second degree assault.

Initially, the Judge had doubts granting Kim’s request because “athletes should live by the same law as everyone else“.

“It was her decision. If she would have said you can’t do it, then okay, I have to deal with that. I mean, I did something and you have to suffer the consequences when you have these reactions.” according to Kim. “It has in many ways allowed me to do thing that maybe playing would not have given me, but at the same time, my life has always been playing sports. and having that being currently taken away from me, it has been really difficult.” she added.

“I can’t imagine if that was me or somebody that I love who was injured or hurt. And it’s horrible, it’s a horrible thing.” according to Kim.

She has paid her dues & we’re very happy that she’s getting another shot to resurrect her volleyball career. Kim is one talented athlete and we really had high hopes for her after an amazing performance at the 2008 Olympics.

Welcome back sister! The Volley Word missed ya!
