Jet Ride: Phuket, Thailand

We’ve never been to Thailand but one of dearest friends known as MileWh*re has pretty much traveled the world and has shared to us the experience visiting one of Thailand’s most popular tourist destinations.

In case you didn’t know, Thailand is hosting the first round of the 2011 FIVB World Grand Prix which kicks off in less than 24 hours. The city of Nakhonpathom, which is 683.86 kilometers/ 424.93 miles away from Phuket, welcomes 2010 World Champions Russia, Grand Prix returnees Cuba and South American powerhouse Peru.

Here’s what MW has to say about Phuket…

One of my favorite things to visit when traveling are beach resort destinations from all over, just so I could compare them with some of the most beautiful ones in the Philippines. So far I think Phuket is as beautiful if not by far one of the best beach towns in the world. I normally use the following criteria for amazing beaches: white sands, warm/crystal clear waters, remote location yet ease of access to dining and shopping, abundance of snorkeling/diving spots, and a great relaxing environment. Phuket definitely ticks all the boxes from above with high honors!

The serene beach along the coastal town provides tranquil sunbathing spots; but if one is up for an adventure and wants to explore – the best thing to do is to hire a water taxi from a local to visit other more remote islands such as Phi Phi island! We spent one afternoon relaxing on the waters of the Phi Phi – what a spectacular beach , although a bit crowded from visiting Australians, Europeans, and other asian vacationers.

During our vacation we took a day boat tour and were taken to some amazing places in Pha Nga bay for snorkeling/diving like that of the movie location from “The Beach”! We then went on a canoe ride through caves around the island – incredibly amazing! Lastly, we also parked on the water, in the middle of nowhere and got off to walk to the closest remote island and sand bars… with sea level at waist-high all throughout; what an amazing way to roam around the islands!

The best part of the trip was the day trip to Pha Nga bay, Phi Phi island and remote island beaches! The return-trip factor for me would be perhaps the full moon party, just to see how they celebrate the event! We are looking forward to our oncoming trip together to this southern beach town of Thailand and its neighboring islands this December! Phuket is definitely one of my top vacation spots in the world!
