Michal Kubiak Issues Public Apology

What he said according to this article has caused a lot of anger and hate from a lot of Iranians in and out of the volleyball world.

We just want to share the public apology from Polish volleyball player Michal Kubiak:

Drodzy Kibice!

Z wyrazami szacunku,
Michał Kubiak
kapitan reprezentacji Polski mężczyzn w siatkówce

English Translation:

Dear Fans,

Referring to an unnecessary media fuss which appeared after the interview I grave to Jerzy Mielewski in “Prawda Siatki”, I declare the following:

First of all – as everyone – I have the right to my own opinion.

Secondly, I have a right and even a duty to react when my family, my friends from the court and I are the subject of threats and invective from the players of opposite team and their aggressive fans. Such situations took place during matches against the Iranian national team.

I strongly emphasize that my words were directed only to people who I encountered personally – players and their chauvinist fans.

I express regret that my words could have been misunderstood. Perhaps I said them in the wrong context. At this point I would like to stress that I am as far as possible from any xenophobic ideas which have been attributed to me for several days.

Racism, lack of respect for national colors and for an opponent are unacceptable and shameful for an athlete.

At the same time I have to emphasize that I do not change my opinion about Iranian volleyball players and fans who have offended my family and my friends.

Yours faithfully,
Michał Kubiak
Captain of Polish national volleyball team

It may take some time before he can be fully forgiven by those who got hurt and offended from his words but let’s STOP spreading the hate towards Kubiak and his family.

This world already has so much to deal with so let’s BE KINDER TO EACH OTHER.
