2013 FIVB Beach VB World Tour

Full Coverage of the 2013 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour with tournament results, pictures, press quotes, videos and more.

Per FIVB:

The FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour continues to make history with a record breaking 10 FIVB World Tour Grand Slam tournaments to feature in 2013, topped off by the prestigious FIVB World Championships in Stare Jablonki, Poland in the middle of the season.

A new philosophy has been introduced to create new opportunities for players as well as a sustainable beach volleyball event structure.

The 2013 FIVB World Tour – a tour of many firsts

The 10 FIVB World Tour Grand Slams – representing an increase from eight events in 2012 and six in 2011 – will take place across four of the five FIVB Confederations in 9 different countries. A maximum number of 12 Grand Slam events will be organised in any season with the aim of maintaining the highest level of competition for beach volleyball’s elite.

This year the beach volleyball season will run over six months and offer a total amount of prize money of $6.875million.

Another significant change is that the format of all FIVB World Championships, World Tour Grand Slam and FIVB Open events will be the same featuring pool play followed by single elimination knockout rounds.

Importantly, the FIVB World Ranking system will now take into account the beach volleyball events at intercontinental, continental and national level.

Grand Slam Tournaments

Shanghai in China will host the first FIVB World Tour Grand Slam of 2013 from April 30 to May 5. The Tour is expected to finish in Sao Paulo with a tournament that runs from October 9 to 13.

Beijing, Rome, Berlin, Moscow and Gstaad are some of the familiar venues on the World Tour, while beach volleyball returns to the United States for the first time since Carson in 2003 when Long Beach, California hosts a tournament from July 23 to 28. The Tour also welcomes back The Hague in The Netherlands, after the Dutch capital hosted the CEV European Championships in 2012, a responsibility taken on by Klagenfurt in Austria in 2013. And for the first time, Corrientes in Argentina will host a World Tour stop.

Stare Jablonki has been rewarded for hosting one of the most popular stops on the World Tour by being given the responsibility of organising the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships. The cream of the beach volleyball world will descend on the banks of Lake Mazury in north-east Poland from July 1 to 7 to see if Emanuel Rego and Alison Cerutti can retain their world crown in the men’s competition, and who will succeed Juliana Felisberta da Silva and Larissa Franca as women’s world champions and take home the $500,000 on offer to the winners of each gender.
