What in the world did Coach Alekno feed MUSERSKIY after Set 2? LOL! What a great comeback for Mikhaylov and Team RUSSIA! Therefore …

LET’S GIVE LOTS OF LIKES to your 2012 OLYMPIC CHAMPIONS: RUSSIA!

FIVB Gold Medal Match Press Conference Quotes:

“It’s an ‘idiot’s dream coming true (referring to ‘Twelve Chairs’, a Russian novel). They say you can’t enter the same river for the second time. But we did try it and we won this time. And it was the right time to win.” -Coach Vladimir Alekno (RUS)

“Right now I’m just sorry because we were so close to victory, we were very close. We go home with the flavor in our mouths but I am also so proud of the team, we can just look to Rio 2016. I want to say thank you to London, because we have had a great experience here in London. I feel sorry and frustrated. I tried to change the positions but it didn’t work. We wanted so much to win, we were so close, but we didn’t manage it. The first three sets were good. We could have won the match but the fourth set went away. We didn’t manage to follow the rhythm it could have easily been different. We lacked tranquility, now we have to think about every one coming to our house in Rio 2016.” -Coach Bernardo Rezende (BRA)

“It’s hard for me to speak. Emotions are overwhelming me. It was a hard match. I think that those people that did not believe in us, they turned their back and went away after the second set, but those who trusted, they are the most valuable. I think we have shown our courageous character.” -Sergey Tetyukhin (RUS)

“It was very difficult for us during the first two sets, we just seemed lost on the court which is not like us. The first set was difficult psychologically – it wasn’t happening. We had to get ourselves together and sort it out. The main thing was confidence. From the first two sets, we were hanging our heads in shame. We didn’t lose our confidence and just got together, took a depth breath and to us it was the first set. Coach Alekno changed the game completely by moving Dmitriy Muserskiy to the hitter position and we just started to play better. Yes I got a lot of points in this tournament, but about winning the set and the match. The fact I scored lots of points is irrelevant. Lot of players can score, but not every team can win.”

On winning another gold medal for Russia

“This is a wonderful experience to finally, even though we have won so many medals in volleyball to have our first gold again since 1980 in Moscow. I wasn’t even born yet that’s how long ago it was. But for our family, including physios and everyone else, and for our country, this gold medal is for all of us to share and enjoy the moment. It’s been a very long time coming.” -Maxim Mikhaylov (RUS)

“Now we have to learn to live with these consequences. We had the chance but now we have to show up and take the chances. The match doesn’t have an explanation after winning the first two sets and losing the next three. With all the problems we’ve overcome, it’s okay to win a silver medal. We’re obviously angry and very disappointed, especially starting out so good and then losing it.” -Bruno Rezende (BRA)

“It’s unexplainable. We knew it was going to be difficult, we can’t believe it. Losing is part of it but the way we did is even harder to accept. We are going to have Olympic heroes in Rio (de Janeiro, Brazil).” -Sergio Santos (BRA)

FIVB Gold Medal Match Press Conference Quotes:

“This is a wonderful feeling, it’s amazing. Last year we lost every match against the USA. For me, the USA were the favorites before this match. We played well tactically. After the first set we played really wonderful. We were serving well. We didn’t make mistakes on reception. Soccer in Brazil is not a sport, it is a religion, so volleyball is the first sport in Brazil. I imagine the people in Brazil will be very sad about the soccer team losing to Mexico, but very happy about us beating the USA. It’s amazing, it is wonderful.” -Coach Guimaraes (BRA)

“Brazil started serving much more aggressively, in all honesty they were better than us. They were pressing us and we didn’t really respond as well as we should have done. I am very proud of Team USA. We didn’t get the result we wanted, it’s the way it goes. That’s life, Kudos to Brazil, but I’m still proud of my team. You can’t always get the gold, but you have to look at what you do to try and achieve it and we tried our best.”

On his future:

“This is the end of the road for me in the international arena. It’s been a privilege, but it’s the end of a chapter. If they need me (for Rio 2016 Olympic Games), I’ll always be here. USA Volleyball is in my blood. If I can be a scout or help, I’ll do it.” -Coach McCutcheon (USA)

“I think that the power we had, the power we gave to each other gave us the deserved result. There are no words for this emotion. We love this, we live this both on and off the court. The critics that we had at the beginning were important for us to grow. Being second was never an option. We’re going to enjoy this a lot and so is Brazil.” -Fabi (BRA)

“It’s like we’d spoken about before, we had to trust in ourselves and our attack. We are two-time Olympic Games champions. Unbelievable, but we know it’s true.” -Jaqueline Carvalho (BRA)

“I’m happy with it. It’s not too shabby. When you play for your country, it’s not for money or fame, it’s for your family, your pride, your country. You don’t do it to receive stuff.” -Logan Tom (USA)

“Our matchup was the same as it always has been. I think they really woke up after the first set. They made it a lot more challenging to get back into the game and we didn’t respond very well. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience and you can’t take it for granted. Silver is very good, gold is just better.” -Megan Hodge (USA)
