Ms Norris from Bristol Feminist Network says…

“I think what is really shows is that there’s still a lack of seriousness taken when it comes to women’s sports. There’s the assumption that men are the spectators rather than women for a start. But also do we want these women to be seen as athletes or are they walking advertising billboards? These are big, big questions.”

We totally agree with Ms Norris!

We’re not sure about this but we hope this advertising campaign would work out for the players and the advertisers.

We have learned British volleyball players, Shauna Mullin and Zara Dampney, will sport high tech itsy bitsy bikini bottoms at the ongoing Visa FIVB Beach Volleyball International, an intercontinental women’s volleyball exhibition.

 

A high tech bar code known as Quick Response (QR) have been installed on their bikini bottoms. Each time someone takes a picture of their b*tts using a smartphone, the person will be automatically directed by the QR matrix barcode to Betfair – an online sports betting company.

Just like you, we wonder why they install the codes in that “area” of all areas. According to advertisers, the bikini bottoms attract the most attention.

Oh Really?

Betfair’s Andy Lulham says…

“There is huge interest in beach volleyball and we want to ensure that our advertising campaign is seen and remembered by as many sports fans as possible. As far as we’re aware this is the first time QR codes have been used in in-play sports advertising and what better way to test its effectiveness than by putting them on one of the places that is likely to get photographed the most.”

Side Dish: According to a source, Betfair are believed to be paying the professional players a substantial five figure sum for sponsorship rights to their behinds.
